Post SXSW – Arcade Fire’s Saxophonist, Colin Stetson

Couldn’t wait on this one
So I was going to post a good countdown list of my favorite and least favorite shows from last week’s SXSW, but I just came across this and couldn’t wait to share my excitement. Walking into The Parish for the NPR day party on Thursday afternoon, it was quite exciting to see a dark, quiet room, completely focused on the stage and solo saxophonist Colin Stetson “wailing” on his sax. This Avant-garde style was unique to my other experiences last week and I can see why musicians like Arcade Fire, Tom Waits, and David Byne ask Colin to accompany them on their tours. See why on NPR below
Congratulations to Arcade Fire Winning Album of the Year

Tonight, in addition to performing two songs off their latest album, Arcade Fire will take home the Grammy for Album of the Year. After hearing that they were nominated for their album The Suburbs, I have been rooting for them to be recognized for the amazing musicians that they are. Arcade Fire is a well-rounded, multi-talented group of people, creating music that touches the kid inside everyone and appeals to a mass audience without even trying to. After the successes with their last two albums, Funeral and Neon Bible, it is only fitting that Arcade Fire top themselves with an honor this monumental that they are most deserving of.
Congratulations, Arcade Fire.
Monday Warming: John Legend & The Roots (Arcade Fire Cover)

John Legend Has a Seriously Cool Voice
So it would only make sense if someone were to cover Arcade Fire’s ‘Wake Up’ and do it the justice it deserves, it would be Mr. Legend…and one of the coolest soul bands ever in the Roots. This is a bit old, but for some reason these vocals were ringing in my head when I ‘Woke Up’ this morning. Maybe it can help get you on a peaceful track for the day.
Sufjan Steven Makes Christmas Music…with The National and Arcade Fire Member

Nonono, don’t expect a bunch of sappy Xmas tunes in the next few days. Just found this on Consequence of Sound and figured it was worth a post. I guess Sufjan plans to release an EP sometime soon (see below) but these two tracks feature The National’s Aaron and Bryce Dessner and Arcade Fire multiinstrumentalist Richard Reed-Parry, who all appeared on the BBC’s 6 Mix a few days ago. Honestly, still makes me despise most xmas tunes, but what the hell, it’s almost here

Arcade Fire Interview on Labels/Recent Success

So I’m usually not too big of a Pitchfork fan, but this interview just popped up with Win and Will from Arcade Fire and anytime I get to hear what they have to say, I listen. This interview was shortly after they’re stunning MSG performances and the #1 landing of “The Suburbs”
