I recently watched a French movie called OSS 117 – Lost in Rio, and it was funnier than any movie I have seen in a while. A few hours later, my good friend Mack told me about a French hip hop producer named Wax Tailor. His real name is Jean-Christophe Le Saoût and he released his first full-length album titled Tales of the Forgotten Melodies in 2005. Using samples from various classic movies, Le Saoût makes some masterful beats that have a sort of heavy feel to them. It makes sense though considering his mentor is RJD2. Check out a couple of my favorite songs from the album below and if you want, you can buy the whole album here.

Another international artist I caught was the DJ out of Bogota, Colombia known as Pernett. There is a hot music scene coming out of Colombia right now, producing electronic/hip hop type groups like Bomba Estéreo, Choc Quib Town, Systema Solar, and more. I believe Pernett will soon be joining their ranks. What makes him so great is his Caribbean influences, not just sticking strictly to Colombian sounds but venturing elsewhere in paradise land. At SXSW, he had a packed house of traditional world fans jumping up and down, I think it’s safe to say he’s only going to get bigger in the international DJ scene.

Here’s the lo-down on Ed Banger Records
Founded in 2002, this French electronic music label was started by electro-house DJ, Pedro Winter. In addition to himself, Ed Banger houses such acts as Justice, Uffie, Mr. Flash and a plethora of other digital dynasties. Here’s an interview with the owner himself:

Owning a label and doing mixes for Thievery Corporation
are just a handful of the things Brooklyn based DJ, Nickodemus, has his scratchin’ fingers on these days.
He’s been involved in the New York dance scene as a DJ for about ten years now, utilizing tons of genres in his music including house, hip-hop, jazz, funk and dub. He has two albums right now including Sun People and Endangered Species that were both released on his label, Wonderwheel Recordings. These two tracks below give you a flavor of how widespread his music is. The first is kind of house-esque with a real beat you can dance too. The second is a downtempo trip-hop groove. Both are very tasty.

Here’s a little something to possibly make your Monday morning a bit less harsh (doubt it). Courtesy of the UK’s Record of The Day, I was introduced to Tehran born DJ Hiatus (soundcloud here) . Most of his tracks are generally mellow, but this one takes the cake. This video deserves at least two or three views, if only for enjoying something slightly odd on this chilly Monday.

Check out this sick track from Germany’s Pinju. I’ve heard most of his soundcloud tracks, which are all decent, including a trippy ‘Flute Banger’, but this dude somehow takes the same repeating lick on ‘Mad Indian’ and makes it into one badass track. Enjoy…
