Band on the Rise: Of Monsters and Men

April 5, 2011 § Leave a comment

It was good to see these guys up on hype machine this morning, seems like it’s only a matter of time before they become a strong presence in the U.S. The band is Of Monsters and Men, hailing from Iceland and once again, being introduced to us through Seattle’s KEXP Their facebook says they used to be mainly acoustic, but after adding some bass, piano, drums, and the more prevalent than ever accordion, they now have a much bigger sound. Check out their hit ‘Little Talks’ (Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros anyone?) that is sure to elevate their U.S. visibility soon.

Stream ‘Little Talk’s now (and catch yourself whistling along)

Monday Warming; The Head and the Heart (SXSW is Near)

March 7, 2011 § Leave a comment

This week’s morning warming will begin our SXSW previews

With one of the coolest festivals out there coming up next week, I wanted to share with you some of the groups I plan on seeing in between the free beer and bbq.
We’ve previewed The Head and the Heart before, but I still have yet to see them live and this might be the group I’m looking forward to the most. I’ve heard nothing but great things on their live performance and it’s been fun watching these guys go from KEXP, to opening for Dave & Tim in Las Vegas, to being signed by Sub Pop. Maybe this is part of the reason?

Monday Warming: The Head and The Heart

January 3, 2011 § Leave a comment

So coming off a long holiday break
(apologies for the small amounts of posts), needless to say we’re probably all a bit drowsy trying to get back into the groove. So I wanted a special Warming today and who else better to do that than The Head and The Heart. I saw these guys a few weeks ago on Seattle’s kick ass KEXP station as a ‘band you might have missed.’ After that they opened for Dave Matthews in Vegas and things seem to be picking up quickly for them. All of their songs gradually build and their harmonies and driving percussion really make the whole album spectacular. If the song below doesn’t brighten your Monday…drink some more coffee.

Check out their MySpace for some more incredible tunes.
