Discovery of the Week: King Charles

March 30, 2011 § Leave a comment

I just came across this track, ‘Love Lust’ on HypeMachine and I was so taken by it. King Charles is a singer-songwriter from London that has been softly clambering around the internet waves for a few years now but recently he entered a contract with US record label, Universal Republic. With a combined effort between that label and his UK independent counterpart, Mi7 Records, King Charles will hopefully be releasing his debut album this summer. This is definitely one that I’m going to keep an eye on. Ya gotta love that hair.

The Disgustingly Nasty Chords of Yuck

One of the bands gracing the SXSW line-up this summer is London outfit Yuck, led by lead singer Daniel Blumberg.  They just released their debut, self-titled album called…ha.  Every song is a blessing from the grunge gods before us.  Pretty simple musically but Blumberg’s lyrics have such a soft hint of nostalgia that the droning guitars are given life and lifted to a new realm of indie-rock.  Here’s “The Wall.”  Pretty straightforward lyrics about overcoming something so very daunting…ahh angst, how i love thee.
