Laurel Sprengelmeyer, aka Little Scream, from Montreal is sure to get you going on this Monday morning with her song, “Cannons” from her debut album The Golden Record. Her album has the regular buffet of wispy girl vocal and acoustic guitar songs but this one here has something a little more special that really stands out. On the album she plays guitar, violin and keyboard and gets some help from Arcade Fire’s violin player Sarah Neufeld.
The album came out earlier this month on Secretly Canadian. Enjoy “Cannons”

That’s an order!
Okay not really, but seriously entertain the idea of checking them out because I saw them live last week opening for Toro y Moi and they were dynamite. They used some of the strangest vocal effects my ears have ever experienced. They sounded like synthesizers wailing over the droning guitar but really it was the soft chants of two out of the four members in this Montreal-based band. The songs are very atmospheric with bursts of powerful anthems that have singer, Raphaelle Standell-Preston, belting her little voice as hard as it will go all while picking out some pretty intricate guitar lines. Check out their song ‘Lemonade’ below off of their debut LP, Native Speaker.

How fitting is it that our Remix Wednesday features the same artist as this week’s Monday Warming? Adventure Club is a newly formed (early 2011) dubstep duo from Montréal with plans to release a new EP soon. I never thought James V. McMorrow’s dreamy voice could fit into a dubstep remix so well.
Check out their soundcloud here.

On my way to my final day of SXSW, I mentioned to a friend how I wished Ratatat was playing somewhere that day. On our hunt for free food and beer, we ventured into the Brooklyn Vegan party and low and behold, there was a band quite similar to the electronic duo. Misteur Valaire is some crazy dance-punk group who all wore the same outfits and danced like fools. They hail from Montréal and really know how to get a party started. Check out Brooklyn Vegan’s short review of the show.

See if this doesn’t wake you up.
