The Cabaret Queen gets the remix treatment
Amanda Palmer, ex-lead singer and piano player of the insatiable Dresden Dolls, released her second solo album Amanda Palmer Goes Down Under last month and this remix of the first single “Map of Tasmania” shows a new side of Amanda that I thought would never rise from her melancholy melodies in the Dolls. The album’s theme is based off of Antipodean philosophies which coincide with the music being written while Amanda was on tour in Australia and New Zealand. The song chants how “we are the media,” most likely referring to the emergence of viral media via the internet and quite a topical idea at that. Maybe we are about to see a more political version of Amanda Palmer with this new collection of songs.

Australian duo in outrageous costumes for live show.
I just had to share these guys. Empire of the Sun is a pop/electronic explosion of sound featuring Luke Steele of The Sleepy Jackson and Nick Littlemore of Pnau. They got that homoerotic dance club music down pat, kind of like Erasure meets Depeche Mode and for some reason its catchy. Their debut album, aptly titled Walking on a Dream from 2008, features their first single by the same name and it is quite a feet shuffling jam. Believe or not they’ve toured with Lady Sovereign and La Roux and played Lollapalooza last year. If MGMT was a disco band and went back to the 70s from whence they came, this would be them. Their live show looks ridiculously wonderful as well. Just see for yourselves…
