Skream & Example – Shot Yourself in the Foot Again

This has been dominating Hype Machine.
It seems like it’s been in the popular streaming songs section for over 2 weeks now, which is somewhat unusual for Hype. I don’t know much about these guys except they seem to be out of the UK and obviously are doing variations on dubstep. But I do know this song has a hook that people can’t deny. Check out the video

Gorillaz Drop Christmas iPad Album

January 11, 2011 § Leave a comment

For the month of December, hip-hop/indie/electronica group Gorillaz leaked a number of gifts to fans in the form of an advent calendar that ended in a brand new album, released on Christmas Day. The album is nothing too special, but there are some pretty amazing new sounds on there and most interesting of all, it was created entirely on an iPad during the group’s fall tour. I for one am resisting the desire for yet another Apple craze but you can’t deny that you can make some pretty amazing art using it, as the Gorillaz have proven. I do believe there was some post-production done on the album that was in-studio but Damon Albarn said he wanted the album released as quickly as possible after the tour to keep the illusion of using only the iPad to create the songs. You can visit here to see a list of all the applications used by the band.  It’s certainly not the most stellar Gorillaz album, but it’s a nice little treat til the next full length.

Go listen to: ‘Phoner to Arizona’ which includes a link to the other 14 tracks

Gaudi has had an exceptional year with his latest album,

No Prisoners, which came out last March.  It has been the catalyst for his influence spreading from his London fanbase all the way to Canadian and US dancefloors.  Gaudi, a producer/solo artist makes mostly electronic/dub dj style music.  He has been working with Six Degrees records since his 2007 release and they just posted this tour promo video of Gaudi live.  A follow-up EP called Bad Boy Bass Remixes can be purchased through the Six Degrees online store.  Gaudi will be on tour at the end of this year with Thievery Corporation and Balakan Beat Box.

Brit-rock Allstars Join In For A Carnival

November 30, 2010 § Leave a comment

Mysterious band from foggy London, Erland and the Carnival does folk-rock in a state of dreamlike nostalgia, especially in “Trouble In Mind” from their self-titled January 2010 release and the video is just as dreamlike. The band features Simon Tong, previously from Blur and The Good, The Bad & The Queen, and drummer David Nock, previously from The Cult and The Fireman.
